Window Painting

For existing windows, our process is similar to painting doors. We start by masking off all the glass with paper and tape, and then we patch all of the wood. If needed, we apply window glazing and allow it to dry for four days. Once the windows are prepared, we use a brush to paint the wood styles and the wood window frame. Our more experienced painters handle this work because they are seasoned with their brushes.

For newly installed windows, we start by masking them off and then patching all the new nail holes. Next, we sand the patches and caulk all open voids. If possible, we spray all the surfaces to ensure a smooth finish.

One way we paint windows that have divided light and many styles is by using a product called Liquid Masking H20. This product is applied to the entire window, including the wood styles and the glass, and acts as a primer for the wood and a protector for the glass. After sanding the primer, we can proceed to paint the windows. Once the painting is complete, we use a razor blade to cut the coating at the glass/wood style meeting point. Then, we can peel back the coating from the glass. This is an alternative to using blue tape and paper to cover all glass panes.
