Homes in Ojai
In 1916 Edward Libbey had the architects Mead and Requa rebuild the town centre in the Spanish style, including the Mission Revival Arcade on Ojai Avenue (1917).
The city sets the Arcade’s main wall colour as Benjamin Moore Navajo White, and its Historic Preservation Commission approves colour changes there and on other landmarks. A single-storey house in a single-family zone generally doesn’t need design review.
Climate and coatings
Ojai summers are hot and dry, sometimes over 100 °F, and cold air settles in the valley at night, so daily temperature swings are large. Paint in the morning, follow the shade, avoid walls above about 90 to 95 °F, and finish early enough that evening dew doesn’t reach uncured paint (Dunn-Edwards, Sherwin-Williams).
