Downtown has medium-density housing along Carpinteria and Linden avenues, and the Beach Neighborhood runs along the shore west of downtown. The city’s plans aim to keep its small beach-town character and family neighbourhoods.
Carpinteria’s Architectural Review Board reviews exterior finishes and colour schemes on some residential projects, such as apartment repaints. Check with the city before a big colour change.
Climate and coatings
Carpinteria rarely gets hot: summer highs are in the mid 70s °F. The catch on the coast is moisture, so paint goes on once mildew is washed off and the wall is dry, ideally in the warmest, driest part of the day, about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Dunn-Edwards).
