Neighbourhoods we serve
Homes in Isla Vista
Isla Vista’s streets were laid out in 1925, and apartment building took off in the early 1960s. Most residents are UCSB or Santa Barbara City College students, and most homes are rentals.
Many homes on the ocean side of Del Playa Drive stand on bluffs 30 to 60 feet above the Pacific. Isla Vista is in unincorporated Santa Barbara County.
Climate and coatings
Buildings on the bluff face the ocean directly and sit in the South Coast marine layer through late spring and early summer. Walls that stay damp grow mildew, which has to be washed off before painting or it grows back through the new coat (Sherwin-Williams).
Dunn-Edwards advises painting exteriors in the warmest, driest part of the day, about 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and following the sun around the building.
