Castle Construction of Santa Barbara was renovating a rental property in Santa Barbara, and Purple Painting took on its fencing, gates and pergola. We pressure washed the fencing to clean it, then brushed a transparent stain onto the cedar fence. The teak fences and gates were pressure washed and scuff sanded to open the grain, then sealed with two coats of UV-resistant varnish. This was a maintenance coating, not a strip and refinish.
The plaster walls in the garden were pressure washed too. The black plaster pony wall and fountain wall were lime washed black, while the small white plaster pony wall was pressure washed only.
The same renovation had new interior doors. We laid them flat and sprayed them for a smooth, factory-quality finish.
How we did it
-
Pressure wash
The fencing was pressure washed clean before any stain went on.
-
Stain the cedar fence
The cedar fence got a brushed coat of stain, transparent so the wood grain shows through.
-
Sand and varnish the teak
The teak fences and gates were scuff sanded to open the grain, then sealed with two coats of UV-resistant varnish, a maintenance coating rather than a strip and refinish.
-
Lime wash the black plaster walls
The black plaster pony wall and fountain wall were pressure washed and lime washed black.
-
Spray the new doors
The new interior doors were laid flat and sprayed for a smooth finish.
