Homes in Lompoc
Lompoc grew slowly until 1958, when Camp Cooke became a missile site (later Vandenberg), and housing then expanded quickly. Newer housing climbs north onto the higher ground of Vandenberg Village and the hills.
Downtown keeps older landmarks such as the Mission Revival Lompoc Theatre (1927) and the Spanish Colonial Revival Veterans Memorial Building (1936).
Climate and coatings
Lompoc is cool, often foggy and windy: National Weather Service forecasts for the Lompoc and Vandenberg coast call for afternoon northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph. Wind dries paint too fast (Dunn-Edwards), and on foggy mornings painting waits until the wall is dry and at least 5 °F above the dew point (Benjamin Moore).
