A new custom home on the Santa Barbara Mesa, built by Jed Hirsch General Building Contractor. Purple Painting painted the interior walls, ceilings, beams, baseboard, and window and door trim, following the designer's finish schedule.

The schedule set one white as the standard: eggshell on walls, flat on drywall ceilings and satin on trim. The kitchen's tongue-and-groove ceiling and beams were the same white in satin. In the primary suite, the wainscot paneling and trim were a second white in satin.

How we did it

  1. Walls: prime and two coats

The proposal covered the interior drywall walls with primer and two coats.

  2. Ceilings: prime and two coats

The drywall ceilings and the wood ceilings were each priced for primer and two coats.

  3. Baseboard, window trim and doors

The wood baseboard was primed and given two coats. The window jambs, sills and casings, and the door leafs, frames and casings, were part of the same scope.

  4. Patchwork on painted surfaces

A change order added patching, priming and painting at surfaces that had already been painted.

  5. Second-floor door stops

Another change order covered patching, priming and painting the casings where second-floor door stops were repaired.

  6. Colour changes

Colour changes came after the first schedule: in the primary bath and a closet, and later a second change to one bedroom's walls.
