Purple Painting is the painting subcontractor to Smith MEP on the tenant improvement that turns a downtown Santa Barbara building into Santa Barbara City College's new cosmetology school. It is a public works project, and the painting runs across all three levels.
The scope covers the new drywall walls and ceilings, the existing ceilings, the wood baseboard, the doors and frames, the interior window frames, the exposed ductwork, piping and conduit, and a pearlescent specialty coating on one product display wall. The exterior plaster is touched up around the new louvre grilles.
The third floor also has two wallcovering applications, which Purple Painting hangs. The walls are primed and painted first, because the paper cannot go up until the painting behind it is done.
This job is still in progress, so this page shows the work so far rather than the finished rooms: walls primed, then painted corridors, painted classrooms and a white-painted open ceiling and ductwork. No paint colours or products are listed until the records are complete.
How we did it
-
Prime the new walls
The new drywall walls were primed ahead of the finish coats.
-
Paint the walls
The primed walls were painted in the classrooms and corridors, floor by floor.
-
Paint the ceilings and ductwork
The exposed ceiling structure and the new exposed ductwork were painted white.
-
Doors, frames and baseboard
The doors and frames, the wood baseboard and the interior window frames are part of the scope.
-
Specialty finish, wallcovering and touch-ups
A Liquapearl specialty coating goes on one product display wall, the third-floor walls are primed and painted and then wallcovered, and the exterior plaster is touched up where the new louvre grilles went in.
