A homeowner in Goleta chose Flora, a wildflower wallpaper by Nestig, for one long bedroom wall, and supplied the paper. We masked the room, primed the bare painted wall with a wallcovering primer, and hung the paper over two consecutive days: preparation and primer on the first, installation on the second, with the primer curing overnight in between.
The pattern repeats every two panels, so the panels were alternated in sequence as they were hung to keep the flowers lined up from one drop to the next. The paper is a non-woven wallcovering applied with paste. Around the outlet the pattern carries straight across the cut, and the plates were reset on top of the paper.
The wallcovering primer is what the paste grips, and it is also what lets the paper come off cleanly years from now without damaging the drywall. See our wallpaper installation service for more.
How we did it
-
Mask and protect
The floors, adjacent walls, ceiling line and baseboard were masked and protected, and the outlet and switch plates were removed.
-
Clean, patch and prime
The painted wall was cleaned, lightly scuff-sanded and spot patched, then given one full coat of wallcovering primer for the paste to grip.
-
Hang the wallpaper
Twelve full-height drops were plumbed and sequenced to hold the pattern, with seams butted and edges trimmed at the ceiling, base and both corners.
-
Finish and clean up
The seams were wiped down, the plates reset over the paper, the masking removed and the room cleaned.
