matte · board walls, wood ceiling, beams, doors and trim
A master bedroom in a Montecito home being remodelled by Jed Hirsch General Building Contractor: wood board walls, a wood ceiling under exposed beams, and French doors out to the patio. We masked the floors, prepped the walls and patched nail holes, then caulked the joints where the siding meets the trim, at the baseboard and at the walls.
The walls and ceiling got one coat, and the beams, baseboard, doors, door trim and window trim were painted in the same colour. We masked the track lights in the beams. The room took three days.
How we did it
-
Mask the floors
The floors were masked, and the track lights in the beams were masked too.
-
Prep the walls and patch
The walls were prepped for paint and the nail holes patched.
-
Caulk the joints
Caulk went into the joints between the siding and the trim, at the baseboard and at the walls.
-
Paint the walls and ceiling
One coat on the wood siding walls and one coat on the tongue-and-groove ceiling.
-
Paint the beams
The three cross beams were painted in the same colour, one coat, with the track lights masked.
-
Paint the doors, baseboard and trim
One coat in the same colour on the baseboard, the two slab doors, the door trim and window trim, and on the interior side of the French doors.
