Purple Painting repainted the interior of a home in the Casitas de la Riviera community in Santa Barbara: the common areas, bedrooms, bathrooms and the stairwell, with their walls, ceilings, doors and trim.

We moved the furniture to the centre of the rooms and covered it, and masked everything that was not being painted. Samples and mock-ups were painted in the home first, and the owners approved the colours before we started. Then we took off the switch plates, patched the holes and sanded the patches to match the texture, spot primed them and sanded the primer. The ceilings were painted first, starting upstairs and working down, and the walls got two coats in flat, and in velvet in the bathrooms.

The doors, baseboards and window trim were scuff sanded, patched with wood filler and caulked, then finished in two coats of a urethane trim enamel in satin.

The home's arched entry door was restored as part of the same job, and has its own page.

How we did it

  1. Protect the home

Furniture was moved to the centre of the rooms and covered in plastic, and windows, French doors, mirrors and fixtures that were not being painted were masked off.

Dining area furniture covered in plastic and taped at the tile floor before painting — Interior Repaint, Casitas de la Riviera, Santa Barbara
  2. Test the colours

Paint samples and mock-ups were painted in the home before the work was scheduled, and the owners approved the colours before painting began.

  3. Patch and prime

Switch plates came off, holes were patched and sanded to match the texture, and the patches were spot primed and sanded.
