A full exterior repaint of a Santa Barbara bungalow and its side garage, with a colour change from gray to green. The old scheme used one colour on the body and eaves; the new one has the eaves painted off-white to contrast with the body, matching the white trim, with new colours on the front and back doors.
We bleached for mould and mildew where needed, cleaned off loose and failing paint, scraped, caulked open gaps and joints, scuff sanded shiny enameled surfaces, repaired damaged wood trim with filler and primed bare wood with oil primer. Everything was then spot primed and given two coats: body, eaves and fascia, entry doors, window frames, shutters, thresholds, metal railings, white fencing and two gates.
How we did it
-
Remove shutters and pressure wash
The shutters were taken off so the wall behind them could be painted, and the house and garage were pressure washed.
-
Patch and prepare
Side plywood was patched to match the existing board and batten, damaged wood trim repaired, gaps caulked, shiny enameled finishes scuff sanded and bare wood primed with oil primer, then every patch spot primed.
-
Spray the eaves and fascia
Everything below was masked, gutters included, and the eaves and fascia boards were sprayed.
-
Spray the body
The eaves were masked in turn and the body was sprayed in two coats in the new green.
