satin · front door and sidelights

A front door that had been taking the afternoon sun for years, and it showed. We masked the glass, hardware and entry, then hand-sanded the door, frame and both sidelights and re-stained the wood to match the original colour.

The refinish was sealed with two coats of clear exterior satin to protect it from the sun. One painter took the job from start to finish over four visits, letting each coat cure before the next.

How we did it

  1. Mask and prep

The surrounding surfaces, hardware and glass were masked before any sanding.

  2. Hand-sand to sound wood

The door, its frame and both sidelights were hand-sanded back to bare or sound wood, as needed.

  3. Re-stain to match

The wood was re-stained to match the existing colour.
