Old Masters Gel stain, Armor topcoat
semi-gloss · red oak
Three brand-new confessional rooms at St. Raphael Church, built in red oak and finished by our crew to sit right alongside the sanctuary's original wood. We submitted stain samples and got them approved before the full run. All the new red oak got one coat of stain and two coats of clear: the wainscot, partition walls, the church-facing facade with its columns and crown, base, casings and six doors. We also primed and painted the new drywall walls and ceilings in all three rooms.
We walked the finished rooms with Jones & Jones Construction and the parish, then came back for final touch-ups: clear on the doorstops and window frames, sharper paint lines, and fresh caulk where wall meets wood.
How we did it
-
Approve stain samples
We submitted stain samples for the new red oak and waited for approval before the full run. The colour is matched as closely as possible to the sanctuary wood.
-
Stain the red oak
One coat of Old Masters gel stain went on all the new red oak: the belly band, partition walls, church-facing facade panels, base, crown, casings and six doors.
-
Clear coat the red oak
Two coats of Old Masters Armor clear in semi-gloss went over the stain on every piece of new wood.
-
Prime and paint the drywall
The new drywall walls above the belly band and the new ceilings were primed and given two coats of paint.
