Purple Painting did two projects for Owl Biomedical at its Goleta site: the fronts of two exterior storage shipping containers, and two long interior hallway walls.

On the containers we masked everything not being painted, scuff sanded the shiny enameled finishes for adhesion and prepared the existing metal, removing rust and priming with red oxide primer. The decals, numbers and words were painted over, and the galvanized bare metal and rubber seals were masked off and left unpainted. The container fronts, the corners and the trim running under the wood siding were painted in a brown to suit the existing wood siding, in an eggshell finish with a high-performance exterior hybrid urethane coating.

Inside, we protected the floors and everything not being painted, scraped loose and failing paint, patched drywall holes, caulked open gaps and joints and scuff sanded the shiny finishes. Then we painted the two facing walls of the company timeline hallway corner to corner, two coats on each.

How we did it

  1. Mask the containers

We masked off everything not being painted and covered the ground around the containers.

  2. Scuff sand and prime the metal

The shiny enameled finish was scuff sanded for adhesion, and any rust on the existing metal was removed and primed with red oxide primer.

  3. Paint the container fronts brown

The fronts, corners and trim under the wood siding got a brown to suit the siding, in an eggshell exterior hybrid urethane. The decals, numbers and words were painted over; the galvanized metal and rubber seals were masked off and left alone.

  4. Prepare the hallway walls

Floors and everything not being painted were protected. Loose paint was scraped, drywall holes patched, gaps and joints caulked, and shiny finishes scuff sanded.

  5. Paint the hallway walls

The two facing hallway walls were painted corner to corner, two coats on each.
