Purple Painting is the painting subcontractor to Smith MEP on the tenant improvement that turns a downtown Santa Barbara building into Santa Barbara City College’s new cosmetology school, and we are also hanging its wallcovering. It is a public works project.
There are two wallcovering applications on the third floor. One is Momentum P3TEC Stellar in Neutral Flake, a wall protection wallcovering made to stand up to impact, cleaning chemicals and abrasion. The other is Maharam Generator 001, a digital wallcovering. Both were added to the contract by change order, with the manufacturer-specified primers and adhesives.
This job is still in progress. The first photo shows the digital wallcovering hung along a classroom wall, and the video shows the wall protection wallcovering on the lower part of a classroom wall. The other photos show the primed and painted walls the wallcovering is hung on. The page will be updated with the finished walls.
How we did it
-
Prime and paint the walls
The third-floor walls that take wallcovering were primed and painted before the wallcovering arrived, because it cannot go up until the painting behind it is done.
-
Prime for the wallcovering
The wallcovering manufacturer’s installation guide calls for the walls to be primed with its specified pigmented primer first, and the first wallcovering wall was primed on a time-and-materials basis.
-
Hang the wall protection wallcovering
The wall protection wallcovering is hung with the manufacturer’s specified adhesive, reverse hung, with the seams overlapped and double-cut.
-
Hang the digital wallcovering
The digital wallcovering goes up on its own wall, with the manufacturer’s specified primer and adhesive.
