Garage with a freshly coated epoxy flake floor, white walls and built-in shelving and cabinets — Garage Epoxy Floor, Ceiling and Cabinets, Santa Barbara

Purple Painting redid a Santa Barbara garage: we scraped off the acoustic popcorn ceiling and repainted it, touched up the walls, coated the floor in epoxy, and primed and painted the built-in garage cabinetry in hybrid enamel.

A Santa Barbara home's garage got a full refresh. The acoustic popcorn ceiling was removed and repainted, the walls were touched up in their existing colour, the floor was coated in epoxy flake, and a change order added the built-in garage cabinetry.

The ceiling was masked off from the rest of the house, scraped, patched where needed, sanded, primed with PVA primer and painted in two coats. The walls had nail holes and imperfections patched and spot primed, then one coat to match what was there. The cabinets were sanded where the filler was rough, primed inside and out including the shelving, caulked as needed and finished in two coats of hybrid enamel, with the shelving removed and the track masked.

How we did it

  1. Protect the house

The garage was masked and protected to keep debris out of the rest of the house.

  2. Remove the popcorn ceiling

All the acoustic texture was scraped from the garage ceiling and the debris disposed of, with the seams taped and sanded.

  3. Patch, prime and paint the ceiling

Concerns were assessed with the homeowner and patched, the patches sanded, then primed with one coat of PVA primer and finished in two coats of paint.

  4. Touch up the walls

The garage walls had minor patching on nail holes and imperfections and spot priming, then one coat to match the existing colour for a uniform look.

  5. Coat the floor in epoxy

The garage floor was coated with an epoxy flake system, built up from prep to the final coat.
