Construction of new classrooms at Hope School in Santa Barbara, including full painting interior and exterior of new building. Alterations to the rest of the school campus, including partial painting of most existing buildings. Replacement and painting of multiple fixed and suspended ceilings and touch-up painting at all associated renovation areas. This project has multiple phases and is set to run for approximately 3 years.

How we did it

  1. Prime and paint the new classroom walls and ceilings

New gypsum board walls, including walls up to 18 feet high, and the vaulted ceilings were given a full prime coat and two coats of finish.

  2. Spot prime and paint existing walls

In the existing buildings, existing drywall and CMU walls were spot primed over patches and given two coats of finish.

  3. Varnish the exposed beams

The glu-lam beams in the new classrooms were changed from paint to clear coat: sanded to open the grain, treated with wood conditioner, sealed with sanding sealer, sanded smooth and finished in two coats of semi-gloss interior varnish.

  4. Paint doors, frames and ductwork

New and existing wood and metal doors and frames, exposed ductwork and the fire pipe were painted.

  5. Paint the exterior of the new classrooms

Cement plaster walls and soffits, fiber cement fascia boards, downspouts, and the steel trellis rafters, beams and columns were painted.

  6. Paint the alteration exteriors

The guardrails and handrails, gutter, redwood fascia, reglets and flashing, mechanical enclosure CMU wall and redwood gate were painted in the existing buildings.

  7. Paint the ceiling tiles

Existing and replaced acoustic ceiling tiles and grids were painted as an added scope, building by building.
