Acoustical "popcorn" ceilings are a common sight in older homes in Santa Barbara and Goleta. While many homeowners have had them removed, some still have them, which can be an eyesore and a potential health hazard. At our painting contractor in Santa Barbara, we have years of experience removing these outdated ceilings, making the process a breeze.
Popcorn ceilings put up before the 1980s can contain asbestos. Before we remove one, a sample of the ceiling should be tested by a certified lab.
If the test comes back positive for asbestos, a painting company can’t remove it. Asbestos-containing material has to be removed by a licensed asbestos abatement contractor, and we highly recommend hiring one. Once the abatement company has removed the ceiling, we come back to skim coat, prime and paint it.
Our team follows a strict process when removing acoustical popcorn ceilings. First, we cover all floors with red rosin paper to protect them from any damage. Then, we use tape and plastic to mask off all walls, ensuring no debris or dust gets on them. The next step is to soak the entire ceiling with water using a pump sprayer. We also make sure our team members are dressed in proper coveralls, safety goggles, and respirators to protect them from any hazards.
After soaking the ceiling, we begin the scraping process. Our experienced painters are skilled in removing all acoustical ceilings efficiently and cleanly. We properly contain and dispose of all waste material at hazardous waste centers to keep the environment safe.
Once the scraping is done, we skim coat all ceilings where acoustical ceilings were removed to ensure a smooth and even finish. Finally, we prime the ceiling so that it's ready for painting.
At our painting contractor in Santa Barbara, we understand that removing acoustical popcorn ceilings can be a dirty and unpleasant process for homeowners. That's why we take extra care to ensure we're quick, clean, and efficient in every step of the process. We highly recommend that nobody stays in the residence while we're working to avoid any potential health hazards.
Trust us to remove your acoustical popcorn ceilings and transform your home into a modern, beautiful space.
