This kitchen underwent a partial remodel that included the addition of new cabinetry. All existing stain-grade cabinets were skillfully converted to a paint-grade finish—first primed with a high-adhesion conversion primer, then sprayed to achieve a smooth, flawless surface. The project also included painting the kitchen and dining room walls, ceilings, baseboards, doors, and trim, resulting in a cohesive and refreshed space that blends seamlessly with the updated cabinetry.
How we did it
-
Sand the existing cabinets
The existing stain-grade cabinets, box exteriors and decorative supports were sanded to break the surface and make sure the topcoat would stick.
-
Prime with a conversion primer
A shellac conversion primer went on the existing wood, with an oil-based wood sealer on the new cabinets, toe-kicks included, and every primed surface was sanded smooth.
-
Patch and caulk
Holes and open voids were patched and caulked, patches sanded and spot primed.
-
Spray two coats of enamel
Two coats of premium enamel were sprayed outside in a canopy spray area set up in the yard, with the existing hardware kept in place.
-
Paint the walls, ceilings and trim
The kitchen and dining room walls, ceilings, baseboards, door casings and doors were painted to match, after patching the drywall where the countertop supports were hidden.
