Purple Painting gave Tino's Italian Grocery, a grocery store in downtown Santa Barbara, a partial interior repaint. The work was scheduled for two weekends, a Saturday evening and a Sunday each time.
The scope covered the entrance wall, the parking-lot wall, the Carrillo Street wall including its low soffit, the employee hallway and swinging gates, the break room walls and the soffits above the deli fridges. The stained beams were left out of the scope.
This page shows the work in progress: the storefront before painting and the store masked for painting. We have no finished photos of the job, and no paint colours or products were found in the job records, so none are listed.
How we did it
-
Mask the store
Windows, fixtures and anything not being painted were masked with paper, plastic and tape, and the floors were covered with tarps and rosin paper.
-
Clean and sand
Walls, ceilings and trim were wiped down to remove dust and grease, and the old paint was lightly sanded to help the new coat bond.
-
Scrape and sand
Loose or failing paint was scraped from walls, ceilings, trim and doors, and rough surfaces were sanded smooth, with the edges of patches feathered.
-
Repair drywall and trim
Holes, dents and cracks in the drywall were patched and sanded, gaps between trim, windows and baseboards were caulked, and damaged trim was filled, sanded and primed.
-
Spot prime
Every patched area was spot primed.
-
Paint the selected areas
Two coats were applied by spray, brush or roller to the entrance wall, the parking-lot wall, the Carrillo Street wall and its low soffit, the employee hallway and swinging gates, the break room walls and the soffits above the deli fridges.
